13 Great New TV Shows To Look Forward To In 2015!

Welcome to my first blog post of 2015, which looks at the brand new TV shows coming our way in the midseason/summer period of television. The shows below are all listed in order of when they will air.

Marvel’s Agent Carter (ABC, Jan 9)

Well it comes as no surprise to anyone to see this show make my list. Hayley Atwell has been amazing in her appearances in the MCU so far, and a period drama set after the disappearance of Captain America and focusing on the formation of SHIELD should be very good indeed. Agent Carter also features the return of Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark), as well as a role for Lyndsy Fonseca, who we saw as Alex in the CW’s fantastic Nikita. So this should be very good indeed, and will fill the gap whilst Agents of SHIELD is off the air.

12 Monkeys (SyFy, Jan 16)

I haven’t actually seen Terry Gilliam’s Twelve Monkeys – which is a cult classic starring Bruce Willis, but I’m willing to give 12 Monkeys a shot for sure as the premise sounds interesting enough. Yes, SyFy hasn’t produced a ‘great’ show since the Battlestar Galactica reboot, but hopefully this time-travelling series featuring several cast members from Nikita should be very interesting indeed.

Better Call Saul (AMC, Feb 8)

I’m still behind on what everyone views as the greatest TV show ever made, Breaking Bad, and am about to plunge into the second season, but given how awesome that series has been so far there’s no way I’m going to miss Better Call Saul. It looks great, and AMC have rarely disappointed me with their new shows as of late so this show should hopefully deliver.

Allegiance (NBC, Feb 5)

Okay, Allegiance is basically NBC’s version of FX’s brilliant The Americans, but still, I’m a sucker for some espionage drama so I’m certainly checking this show out. A decorated American war hero who now works for the CIA doesn’t know that his parents are in fact, Russian sleeper agents, who have been given a task to convert him. This stars Kenneth Choi, Scott Cohen and Hope Davis.

Battle Creek (CBS, March 1)

From the creator of Breaking Bad, Vince Gilligan, this show was actually created before the mega-hit series aired on TV. However, Battle Creek promises to be different, and hopefully just as interesting, looking readymade for CBS with two Detectives who have different views on the world teaming up to fight crime, cleaning up the streets of Battle Creek. This stars Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters.

The Last Man on Earth (Fox, March 1)

The Last Man on Earth looks set to be finally getting a premiere date on March 1 as we saw this show’s trailer look potentially interesting. Phil Miller (Will Forte) finds himself as the titular last man on Earth in this 30 minute comedy series. Hopefully it can be as good as Fox’s previous comedy shows that have launched early on in the year – Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Enlisted, and it’ll be interesting to see whether this show can entertain or not.

Bloodline (Netflix, March TBD)

Netflix have been knocking it out of the park lately with their original releases – House of Cards and Orange is the New Black have been excellent and it’s not the only show from the streaming service that makes this list. Even though Marco Polo wasn’t quite as good as the other two, it was still pretty decent television, and Bloodline should hopefully be pretty good as well. It’s a dramatic thriller that explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a normal urban family, with Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn and Linda Cardellini.

Odyssey (NBC, April 5)

If Allegiance is NBC’s attempt at creating their version of The Americans, Odyssey is their attempt at creating their version of Homeland. From writer-director Peter Horton (Grey’s Anatomy), Odyssey follows three characters – a female Special Forces soldier Sergeant Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel), a US Attorney turned corporate litigator Peter Decker (Peter Facinelli) and a political activist named Harrison Walters (Jake Robinson) as they find themselves pulled into a global conspiracy. It should be pretty good, and I’m certainly on board for episode number one.

Wayward Pines (FOX, May 4)

This upcoming series from FOX airs in the summer and looks pretty interesting indeed. Based on the novel Pines by Blake Crouch, this book sees a US Secret Service Agent (Matt Dillion) investigate the disappearance of two federal agents in a mysterious small Idaho Town. It’s been described as a Twin Peaks-style series and should be pretty interesting indeed, and with the release date being a few months away, it should give me plenty of time to read the book.

Daredevil (Netflix, TBD)

My favourite Marvel superhero is getting a new series from Netflix and there was no way I was going to miss this one. The blind crime-fighter Matt Murdock takes centre stage in something that should hopefully be a lot better than the Ben Affleck Movie. Look out for Charlie Cox in the lead role as the Man Without Fear.

I, Zombie (CW, TBD)

The CW have been on top form lately with stuff like Arrow, The Flash, The Originals and The 100 and I cannot wait for their new Vertigo Comics inspired drama, I, Zombie. Starring Rose McIver in the lead role as a zombie alongside the likes of Malcolm Goodwin, David Anders and Robert Buckley, this show sees Liv, McIver’s character, work at the coroner’s office in an attempt to survive – where she can use memories from the deceased’s brains to help solve homicide mysteries. 

Powers (Playstation, TBD)

Based on the Brian Michael Bendis comic from Marvel’s imprint Icon, Powers looks pretty interesting as Playstation attempt to rival Netflix in the digital television industry. Part gritty cop drama, part superhero show, Powers stars Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward, Michelle Forbes and more in what should be pretty interesting indeed.

Westworld (HBO, TBD)

I’ve saved my most anticipated show for last, even if I did list them mostly in order of dates when they’re being released. The last time JJ Abrams and Jonathan Nolan combined to make a show they gave us Person Of Interest, which is probably my favourite series on television right now. So let’s hope that Westworld can do the same, and although not much is known about this science fiction drama, it should be pretty interesting indeed.

So there we have it. 13 awesome  looking shows that should really make 2015 another stellar year for television, especially when you have all the returning shows like The Americans, Orphan Black, Parks & Rec, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Vikings, Justified and more to look forward to as well. It should be one hell of a year.
